Camden Wins (or loses) Again
Camden has been voted America's Most Dangerous city again. The rankings are based on cities with a population of 75,000 or more.
Government has failed that particular city.
Update: I want to expound on the previous comments. I'm a big believer in the axiom--the smaller the government, the better.
That said, Camden has been screwed for years by poor policies, poor planning and extremely poor governance.
I don't want to hear the tired argument that we should throw more money at the problem, the Tweeter Center, Aquarium and other projects should put that debate to bed.
What Camden needs is someone who takes over, is honest and whips that city into shape. Think NYC prior to Giuliani taking over. They need a leader who makes the residents want to make their city better, not another mayor thrown in jail for corruption.
The Camden schools have been milking money for decades and have not improved. The county has been raising taxes to cover the multitude of expenses the city usurps. I know of two Marlton residents who teach there because they want to, not because they have to. They know the problems inherent with the massive entitlement program that Camden has become.
Today, Camden officials reacted with anger, as they did last year. Sorry fella's, anger ain't gonna cut it this time. It's become fashionable to look into "root causes" to determine why cities such as Camden or Detroit fail, well Camden needs a hell of a lot more than examinations of "root causes".
Eventually, you have to try another avenue, don't you?
Update 2: Enlighten NJ has some, er enlightening stats with regard to spending in Newark, Camden, Millburn and Cherry Hill.
